Investing In Our Communities

Environmental and social performance within the communities in which Gloucester Coal operates is a key priority for our operations in the Lower Hunter and the Gloucester Basin. In addition to current council contributions and sponsoring local events, Gloucester Coal has established a Community Support Program to provide assistance to initiatives in the Lower Hunter (Cessnock and Maitland LGAs) and the Gloucester Basin.

The aim of the Community Support Program is to help benefit a wider range of community needs such as education, environment, health, infrastructure projects, arts, leisure and research.

In the Lower Hunter, Gloucester Coal, through its fully owned subsidiary Donaldson Coal, supports a range of local projects. To help improve road safety, for example, the Company contributed $250,000 towards the upgrade of the Black Hill Road intersection on John Renshaw Drive.

The Company supports a number of research and community education programs including the Hunter Region Botanic Gardens and also remains a strong supporter of the Hunter Valley Training Company. The Hunter Valley Training Company, which celebrates its 30th anniversary in 2011, has a proud record of training young people and finding them productive employment in Hunter industry.
